Alec’s long cloak trailed on the ground as he walked, a brisk pace, beside Heidi, leading the way to the place where the Romanians were. Oddly enough. And annoyingly enough, Alec only smelled one nearby. Only one. From the time Alec had arrived in England, four days ago, Heidi had wanted to shop, to sight see. The girl was apparently incompetent and did not understand when he had told her that there would be no nonsense on this trip. That it was simply for the mission at hand. He was to kill the Romanians, strictly speaking. And both were supposed to be there. Why weren’t they both there? He had no idea. And it really did bother him. Alec stared into the darkness in front of him, continuing to walk, though slowing his pace just slightly. What he didn’t understand was why Heidi assumed she could go off on her own. Why she assumed that he wouldn’t want or need her there. It was obvious, wasn’t it? And the reason why the brothers hadn’t sent him with more talented individuals as bodyguards? If someone were to attack him, she would protect him. Sacrifice herself if need be. It was quite obvious. Or so he thought. Obviously not.
He continued to walk along, there in the dark, in the wee hours of the morning, with a very long, very dark cloak, and a beyond beautiful consort beside him. She could be blond for the capacity of her brain, though. As sexy as that was, he did not need an idiot to guard him. As they walked along in the dark, Alec spoke. “We’re near now. I can smell at least one of them.” He said in a hushed voice that only she would be able to hear. Only she- no Humans, and not even the closest vampire. And apparently, according to the headlines on the newspapers, there were a few. Two, at least. One he was supposed to be meeting. The other. A newborn, no doubt. Would be dealt with. “Heidi, I think we’ll need to make another trip tonight, after I’ve dealt with these gentlemen.” He said. Alec noticed a newspaper box on the corner of a street, and grabbed one, ripping the door-flap thing off its hinges unintentionally, and motioned to the front page. “This.” He said, pointing to one particular headline, outlining a burned corpse, and three others like it in the past week. “Needs to stop.” He told her matter-of-factly.
Alec threw the paper to the ground and continued walking at the same pace, listening for the Romanians’ location. He needn’t rush. Rushing was for humans. For people who didn’t have eternity. But it was pointless all the same. One day they would learn. One day, they would see that rushing was not going to lengthen their lives. Alec rather enjoyed chasing his prey, actually. That was the only time he was amused by their hurrying. Their need to be away from certain places, people... but eventually they did realize that running was pointless. At that point and time, all the fun was lost, and the child was all business. One quick stride and he was at their necks. One small movement, and their blood was gushing from their jugular veins into his arid throat, relieving the thirst- the dry burning. Rushing was foolish. Running lead them to their deaths.
“Honestly, I don’t see why you need to wear such ostentatious clothing when we are not in need of a hunt this time around.” He said, as they passed by a few stragglers, who smelled absolutely appetizing. They were staring at Heidi’s attention grabbing outfit, of course. Possibly her eyes, had they been exceptionally absorbed in her appearance. Not that he could blame them. But of course, if they caught her attention, they would be his meal on the flight back to Volterra. Or hers. Alec preferred young women, anyway. These disgusting men were hardly of his taste. He turned down another alleyway, towards the scent, and slowed down again, drifting, as a ghost might, down the dark, deserted street. No one would see them there. No one would see the murder committed by the small boy and his consort. No one would care anyway.
"Good evening." he said, at the same time Heidi said a name. Alec was immediately alarmed. She knew him. Was that why she had offered to come? Because she knew the Romanian and intended to run away with him? To turn on Alec and the Volturi themselves? Alec's expression became wary and at the same time livid. The double crossing bitch!
