( LAUREN AMELIA MALLORY )
i want to be rich and i want lots of money
i don't care about clever, i don't care about funny
i want loads of clothes and fuckloads of diamonds
i heard people die while trying to find them
- - - - - - - - -
- - - I DARE SAY THAT I'VE HEARD OF YOU BEFORE. REMIND ME AGAIN, WHAT'S THE NAME YOUR PARENTS GAVE YOU, ANY SIGNIFICANCE ?
"my name is lauren amelia mallory. i like it enough i guess. i mean i've never though about changing it, it's not like my name is gertrude or hilda or anything. my middle name is kind of boring but nobody ever really hears it anyway. i wish it was autumn, that'd be prettier, i think. or rebekah."
- - - REMIND ME AGAIN, WHEN WERE YOU BORN ? I CAN NEVER GET ENOUGH OF THE STORY SURROUNDING YOUR BIRTH
"feburary ninth, i'm an aquarius, like oprah winfrey."
- - - CHRIST YOU DON'T LOOK FAMILIAR, DO YOU LIVE IN THESE PARTS?
"what the hell is that supposed to mean, i've lived in this goddamn town since i was two. i was born in san francisco, but my mom and bio dad divorced and because she's a beezy she thought i'd like it better here, which i really don't. i want to move to l.a. or new york or somewhere with people."
- - - SO WE KNOW THIS IS GONNA SOUND STRANGE, BUT WHAT EXACTLY ARE YOU?
"i'm an aquarius, i said that already, idiot."
- - - OKAY, BE HONEST HERE. WHICH ARE YOU IN TO MORE: GUYS OR DOLLS ? DON'T WORRY, MY LIPS ARE SEALED
"i like guys, that's not hush-hush or anything."
- - - TELL ME: WHAT ARE YOUR FAVORITE THINGS IN THE ENTIRE WORLD ? THINGS THAT JUST MAKE YOU WANT TO SMILE
"i love my friends and my... and, uh, tyler. he's a little distracted right now but he's not a bad guy, you know. i think he likes me anyway. i also like shopping and stuff, which makes me sound like a total valley girl, i know, but whatever. also, history class, it's my favorite subject. i want to minor in art history in college."
- - - AND SADLY, WE ALL KNOW THERE ARE THINGS WE JUST CAN'T STAND. WHAT ARE YOUR'S
"bella swan, but, uh, it's not an obession or anything. jess and i agree, she's just a little attention whore, that's all. things were really stable here before she showed up. don't like, tell the police that, though, they got all up in my face after she went missing. i also don't like being dirty or gross or when my credit cards are declined or being grounded, or when people treat me like a five year old. god, i have a brain."
- - - ANY SHORT OR LONG TERM GOALS ? WHERE DO YOU SEE YOURSELF IN FIVE YEARS ? IN TEN ? HOW DO YOU PLAN TO GET THERE
"in ten years? holy crap, in ten years i'm going to be an old geezer, i don't think about that shit. after i graduate i'm going to go to UCLA. i haven't been accepted there yet... but i will. i'm going to major in business management."
- - - WHAT MAKES YOU QUAKE IN YOUR BOOTS ? IF YOU HAD TO PICK ONE THING THAT HAS SCARED YOU THE MOST, WHAT WOULD IT BE
"uurgh, snakes. snakes are... they're gross and disgusting! and spiders, and rodents, and, uh, anything that's poisonous. and the dark. wait, no, i didn't say that. forget that."
- - - IS THERE A SIGNIFICANT OTHER IN YOUR LIFE ? HOW DO YOU DO WITH RELATIONSHIPS
"... no. not right now. it's complicated, really, i don't want to talk about it. oh, except, people call me a slut sometimes, but i'm not. i'm a virgin, i'm waiting until marriage, and i'm not just saying that because disney is a fucking machine in popular culture or anything. i was raised catholic. brought up right."
- - - NOW, YOU KNOW THAT I ADORE YOU, BUT LET'S TALK ABOUT SOME OTHER PEOPLE FOR A BIT. A LITTLE BIRD TOLD ME THAT YOU HAVE SOME PRETTY INTERESTING PARENTS, WHO ARE THEY AND WHAT ARE THEY LIKE
"my mom and step dad live with me here in forks, they run a catering service and they get shit tons of money for it, so we live in a pretty nice house. they're pretty good people, they always get me what i want and everything. my real dad, he's in california. i visit him over summers, but i don't really know him. he's a plastic surgeon."
- - - ANY OTHER IMPORTANT PEOPLE IN YOUR FAMILY ? DID YOUR PARENTS HAVE ANY OTHER CHILDREN
"nope, i'm an only child, thank god. well, i don't know, it might have been nice to have an older sister to talk to while i was growing up, because it gets a little tense with just me and my parents but, ugh, you know, i could have had a little brother. katie has a little brother, he's such an annoying little piece of snot."
- - - HOW ABOUT PETS, HOW MANY DO YOU HAVE
"ugh, i fucking hate animals. they're so needy and annoying. i don't know, i've just never been a pet person, i don't ever really want to have kids either. i need to take care of myself, you know, not a little slobbering dependant."
- - - OKAY, YOU HAVE TO HAVE KNOWN THAT WE WERE GOING TO ASK. WHAT'S YOUR BEST KEPT SECRET ? I WON'T TELL
"a secret? i guess that i'm smarter than i let on. it's like, if you're stupid people don't pass judgement on you when you do shallow things, but if you're smart then all of a sudden you're like some huge hypocrite. i'm smart, though, i'd be valedictorian of our class except that the cullens are fucking cheaters. seriously, 4.5's. how does anyone do that?"

“Ugh, Katie,” Lauren Mallory complained from inside a dressing room at the Seattle Boutique she had dragged her friends to. “This totally makes me look fat.” The purple dress didn't make her look fat in the least and she knew it. Her friends knew it. They even knew that she knew it. Pretty much everyone who went to Forks High knew that Lauren Mallory jumped at any and every chance she could to get people to tell her she was beautiful.
She twisted this way and that in the dressing room, trying to see the back of the intricately crafted dress. The way the fabric moved around her small (wirey. boyish.) frame was pleasing enough, but the color was abrasive, and clashed with her (not edgy, but stupidly) cropped hair. She ran her fingers through the short pale strands and suddenly became frustrated with the whole ensemble, pulling it off as quickly as she could.
Finding a homecoming dress would have to wait. Besides, she thought bitterly, she wasn't entirely sure she'd even have a date yet. Tyler hadn't asked her, after all. He wasn't even supposed to be here anymore- being a year older than the rest of his friends, he really should have left for college a few weeks ago. He had his public reasons, the ones he told her and everyone else, but Lauren was almost entirely sure he'd stayed because of Bella Swan.
She bit her lip as she exited the dressing room, flinging the god awful dress at a sales attendant. She would probably never understand Bella Swan's allure. She hadn't seen anything special in the girl when she'd first arrived, except that Tyler (and every other guy at the school) was completely all over her. Even Angela and Jess had latched on to her pretty much instantly. Lauren didn't get it. She was just another pale, particularly uncoordinated girl.
A pale, uncoordinated girl who had had everything that Lauren ever wanted, and then she ran away. Or got herself kidnapped or eaten by a bear. Whatever it was, Lauren was pretty much certain it was the only bad thing that had happened to Bella in her time at Forks. She shivered involuntarily, knocking on Katie's dressing room door.
“Katie, let's go get yougurt or something. We have like a month to find dresses.” She begged, getting only a mumbled response from her friend. “Come'on, Kates, don't you have to do that thing for Civics? We can do it together.” She pushed, sitting down on a display of shoes nearby.
“What's up with you, Laur?” Katie asked her, exiting the dressing room.
“I'm just really stressed out, you know?” She replied quickly with a thin smile.
“Laur...” Katie warned, putting her returns on a pile of clothing. Lauren sighed and stood up.
“Let's go get yougurt.” Lauren reitered, her tired tone clearly stating that she was done with that particular train of thought. Katie raised a narrow eyebrow. Lauren waved a passive hand at her and picked up her purse, exiting the small store quickly. She didn't deserve such good friends, really. Katie could always one hundred percent for sure tell when something was wrong with her. It was a little annoying, actually, but good.
“Really, Lauren, if you need to talk about anything, I'm here.” She said with a brilliant smile. Lauren smiled back, eying Katie's long hair. It was really too bad, Lauren reflected, that they'd both been nominated for Homecoming Queen. Katie was a really pretty girl, and had fantastic charisma. In fact, if she wasn't content with being second, she probably could have won. That was another thing about Katie that Lauren really liked. She didn't mind playing second fiddle for her.
“I'm just worried about Bella, I guess.” Lauren said (almost) truthfully. In ways, she was- petty a girl as she was, she'd never wish death on Bella, and if she had run away, Lauren probably hadn't helped in her decision. She wasn't heartless, not entirely. Plus, if it was that important to Tyler, she had to support him somehow. She'd seen the way Bella looked at the Cullen boy. She should really be more concerned about college girls.
“I think everyone is.” Katie comforted (although it didn't make Lauren feel much better). If it had been her who had disapeared, she pondered, would Tyler have stayed? Would her father have come running from Italy to look for her? Would everyone be so worried sick that the teachers granted extensions on homework for those who were helping for the search in the woods? She couldn't help but hope they would.
“Yeah.” Lauren muttered, brushing her hair out of her eyes. “Everyone.”
